What are the Health Benefits of Alcohol?

The benefits of wine have long been touted. Turns out that the cardiovascular benefits of alcohol are the same regardless of type. Modest amounts of alcohol have been shown to improve HDL (good cholesterol) and as part of a Mediterranean diet reduce heart disease. But recent reports have linked alcohol consumption to a higher risk of breast cancer. At-risk drinking in woman is considered anything more than 1 drink per day.

Excessive alcohol use has also been linked to other cancers and health problems. Alcohol is also a big source of empty calories and can lead to weight gain. At about 150 calories a pop . . . it adds up fast!
