Is Bread Healthy?

Not all breads are created equal

Despite the bad press, bread is a healthy part of a balanced diet.

Breads and grains make up the basis of the Mediterranean and other healthy diets. Breads are important for digestive health, heart health and energy. In fact if you skimp on carbs your body will use protein for energy even if that means breaking down muscle.

But not all breads are created equal. Don’t trust that a brown bread is whole grain. They can be colored for effect. Also check labels. Packages that say “whole grain” may have insignificant amounts unless it is the first or second ingredient in the label.
