Reslove

Tis' the season for resolutions!
But creating change like creating a new habit can be difficult. Sometimes we falsely believe that change-makers always LOVE to do that thing that they do.
For example-
"healthy eaters just don't like dessert" or
"early risers don't need sleep" or
"fiscally responsible shoppers just don't care about clothes."

Not So!

The difference between those who successfully make change and those who do not is a mindset- staying committed to an inherent goal or value they hold dear and making the sacrifice necessary in the moment to achieve that future goal.

For example- a core value or goal might be health and vitality. In order to achieve that goal we may need to inconvenience ourselves in the moment- get out of bed early, push away the dessert, or say no to an outing and get a good nights sleep. Basically, make a difficult decision in the moment in order to stay committed to that greater goal or value.

To create true long-lasting change, we must maintain a mindset that is aligned with our core values- those principles that are most important to us.

So how do we create this mindset?

There are so many strategies but here are some of my personal faves.

1. Mindfulness- I try and get a dose of mindfulness in daily, whether in the morning to set my intentions for the day or before bed so that I can clear my mind and reconnect with myself and my goals.

2. Movement- daily movement or exercise is a great way to clear our minds of the days events, frustrations and ruminations while the endorphins will help elevate and boost mood. This combination is a perfect setup for uncovering your deep goals and values and creating mindset.

3. Writing practice- writing or journaling is a great way to gain mental clarity and access the values that are most important to you. It is also a great way to identify individual patterns and resistances that can get in the way of keeping with a mindset that is aligned with our goals.

The Things We Can Control

The world is reminding us right now that there is much we cannot control. True, there is much we cannot control but that does not mean we are powerless.
